Day 4 – Okinawa Adventure: Okinawa Cookery & Southeast Botanical Gardens
Day 4 of a 5 Day Tour
Day four started with Qi Gong and then something special; an Okinawa cookery class taught in English. It’s one thing to visit the blue zone areas in Okinawa, like Ogimi and to eat the food, but it’s something immersive to cook the food that powers the blue zone!
Our guests had a private experience with a local bi-lingual chef who runs their own cookery school focussed on Okinawa cuisine. They came up with a menu for us that was thoroughly Okinawan but also included any allowance for allergies or dietary restrictions featuring favorites like Goya Champuru (Stir fried bitter melon) and Ninjin Shirishiri (Shredded & fried carrots) as well as soups & desserts.
After enjoying the fruits of their labors with a delicious lunch in the afternoon the guests visited Southeast Botanical Gardens. Southeast Botanical Gardens is a lush, sprawling oasis where you can walk among towering Alexander palms and rare tropical plants, or get up close with friendly capybaras and squirrel monkeys.
